Remember the Scheepjes CAL 2014 in which we made a granny square blanket designed by Wink from A Creative Being? Suzanne Hertogs from Ontwerphaven so loved this blanket that she asked me to make one for her. She covered my yarn expenses and in exchange for all my work she would design me a logo for my blog. Now isn’t that awesome!
First I set her to work choosing colors. I love working with Scheepjes Cotton 8 so I asked her to choose from the 52 colors in which this yarn is available. With so many colors to choose from she really had to give it some though. She picked these colors…
… and I got to work. Again I made 60 lovely granny’s, all of them unique. There are no two granny’s the same. Then…
… connected them all,…
… made a lovely border around them…
…. and we are all done 😀

Please note that it would be an awful amount of work for me to recreate each of these 60 unique squares’ color patterns.

Yes, I do sleep 🙂 I am just very organized. This blanket I made during the hours inbetween activities. For example those 10 minutes while I’m waiting for my kids at school or during swimming lessons of my yongest son. You usually have more spare time than you realize.

I used more colors than in the original kit. I used 15 colors were the kit used 11. I just looked at each square and though in which way I could make them using the colors I had to work with. Just combining colors that look nice together 🙂

Dag Esther, Ik heb even een vraag. Ik vind de gebruikte kleuren echt zoooo mooi, alleen vind ik het jammer om dat exact na te maken. Nu vind ik het echt lastig om mooie kleuren bij elkaar te kiezen. Heb je tips of zou je me willen helpen hierbij. Ik ben van de kleur ijsblauw. Dat vind ik een mooie basiskleur.

Om kleuren uit te kiezen heb ik een paar globale richtlijnen.
Kijk naar welke kleur je de hoofdkleur wilt maken. Bij de deken hierboven is het grijs-blauw. Zoek dan twee of drie kleuren die het complementeren, er mooi bij passen en een beetje in hetzelfde kleurspectrum zitten. Hier is dat marine blauw, jeans-blauw en ijsblauw.
Zoek vervolgens ook naar een of meerdere basis/rust-kleuren. Hier is het licht grijs, beige, naturel en wit. Deze kleuren geven de deken een rustige ondertoon waardoor de hoofdkleur beter tot uiting komt. Gebruik je basiskleur dan ook in minstens 75% van je vierkantjes.
Zoek als laatst naar een aantal accentkleuren, hier is dat licht geel, poederroze, licht en donker mintgroen en bruin. Deze kleuren passen meestal goed bij je basiskleuren en steken lekker af tegen je hoofdkleur. Deze kleuren moeten je echter spaarzaam gebruiken om te voorkomen dat het te bond wordt.
In deze deken zitten in totaal 15 kleuren en toch merk je het niet zo. Gebruik in één vierkantje kleuren die een beetje bij elkaar passen, dus maak niet een vierkantje van je hoofdkleur, 2 basiskleuren en 2 accentkleuren bijvoorbeeld. Ieder vierkantje moet rust, een accent en eenheid hebben. Dan vormen alle vierkantjes samen dat meestal ook.
In deze deken heb ik Cotton 8 gebruikt, hetzelfde garen als Larra maar dan zonder glans. Het kleurenpallet van Cotton 8 en Larra is nagenoeg hetzelfde.
