The designer of the Almejas shawl, Annelies Baes, who also designed the Flight of Fancy CAL, asked me to make a short video showing how to make the stitch used in her design because she noticed that people were having trouble with it. I am happy to help any of you so I said yes.
I used fabulous, hand dyed yarn by Malabrigo. I used Malabrigo Sock for the inner part of the shawl and Malabrigo Baby Silkpaca for the board. Honestly, this yarn is pure luxury! And as always with good quality luxury products, it does not come cheap. The Malabrigo company works with yarn batches, which means that all their yarns are limited editions. Realistically I don’t think the colors I used will still be available, but that is not a problem in my opinion. I LOVE all the Malabrigo colors!
The shawl has an intricate shell stitch making the center of the shawl. It is this stitch that Annelies asked me to show you. I have a short video in English and Dutch showing how to make the center stitches. I don’t show how to make the entire pattern. If you want to make a shawl of your own you must first purchase the pattern.
When your shawl is finished it is a delicate shawl perfect for wearing to a party. Looking closely at the stitches you see the delicate and subtle color change of the hand dyed yarn. The people making this yarn are serious professionals in my opinion.
I would love to see your wraps. Share them on my Facebook page.
With love,
Esther
