Crochet, Other nutty stuff

Little gems in the mail

Sometimes little gems just drop in your lap, right when you don’t expect it. This has happened to me a few times now and I’d love to share some of these little gems with you.

a photo card

A while ago I had a really bad day. Someone was totally upset with what I had done and I was flabbergasted because to my knowledge I had done nothing wrong. Everyone I spoke to agreed that the other person was totally overreacting. Nice that people support you, but it is really hard to be the bigger person when you know you have done nothing wrong. Still, I tried my best to be the best I can be and took a humble approach to the whole situation. Unfortunately nothing I seemed to do helped to mend the relationship, so I just had to let it go. And that is hard for me. I want to have a good relationship with everyone and it is hard for me to accept that that is not always possible.

I was in very down spirits that day when the mailman dropped an envelope on my doormat. Again I was flabbergasted, but this time for a totally different reason. In the envelope was a photo card from Tinc, the sister of Wink. The card is a drawing of all the Scheepjes Bloggers with the Dancing under the Stars blanket. If this card was not enough, on the back was a hand written note thanking me for my contribution in making the Scheepes CAL 2016 a success. She made my day, there is no other way of saying it. With that card Tinc restored my faith in the good intentions of people.

silver stitch markers

If you recall I have told you before about my nutty friend who is a total fan of squirrels; literally risking life and limb to save them. I am slowly starting to suspect her of stalking the internet looking for squirrel related crochet paraphernalia that she can use to spoil me. She send me a small package with SILVER plated stitch markers made by Thimble and Thread Make. Now if that is not pure luxury I don’t know what is. I am going to feel so spoiled every time I use these.

a melody in yarn

Sometimes other people spoil me, and sometimes I just spoil myself. I have always wanted to try Wolltraum Melodyy yarn and a few weeks ago I impulsively bought myself a big 500 gram cake of 4-ply Melody Nights in White Satin. Don’t you just love the charm used to tie off the end? I seriously love this detail.

I have a very special project that I want to make with this yarn, but it will have to wait till the end of next year I’m afraid. I have so much on my to-do list that I just don’t have the time at the moment. But I have been told that good things are worth waiting for and I think that applies here too. Really looking forward to using this fabulous yarn!

more stitch markers

And while I was on the internet spoiling myself with yarn I was on a roll and spoiled myself a bit more. I ordered custom made stitch markers from Koru Tumi. Beth has made me a set of squirrel and acorn stitch markers and a fabulous tin to match. I received a squirrel crochet hook and two stitch markers made by Beth from my friend Dedri a year ago and I wanted to extend the set. Beth made my new stitch markers just slightly smaller than those I already have so that everything would fit in my new tin.

I LOVE these little gems. Now I have the hard task of choosing which of all my wonderful stitch markers to use. Life is so hard sometimes….. 😉

and a sheep

On the same day as the squirrel and acorn stitch markers there dropped a second envelope on my doormat. This one was all the way from the USA. Inside I found a set of lovely gifts from a new friend who wanted to return a favor I did for her. A few weeks ago I sent her about 40 samples of Color Crafter shades so that she could see the colors in real life.

In the envelope was not just one, but three gifts; I feel so blessed sometimes. She send me a 2.75mm Clover Amour crochet hook; a hook size I don’t actually have so this is a welcome addition to my hook collection.  I also got a hand made pin cushion and a hand made sheep key ring. My youngest son took one look at the sheep and wanted it for himself. “No way” I though, it is way too cute to end up in a play box somewhere. This is going on MY key ring!

I hope you also have little gems in your life; people that send you gifts with love and friendship. Sometimes they come packaged, posted and stamped like mine but they could also come in any other ‘package’. I hope you can recognize them, no matter how small the ‘package’ is they come in.

With love,

  1. Esther, you are such a beautiful person! It is so important to appreciate the little gems in your life. Sometimes things get confusing, and people don’t always do or say the right things. I guess they have muddled thoughts and bad days too – nothing we can do when someone is so inconsolable. Your contributions shine through every word, on your blog, in your tutorials, and in the work you do. Stay amazing my dear, you have earned all the respect and friendship in the world and I’m glad your surprises arrived when they did, just to prove what I’m saying to you is true!! Some of us out here truly appreciate everything you do to get us past our own rough spots 🌹
