Video tutorial Demelza – rectangular panel

We have almost completed all the elements making up our beautiful Demelza blanket. Today is the second last element, the rectangular panels surrounding the center square.

If you want to catch up, we have made the small corner squares, flower squares #1flower squares #2 and the 3D corner squares so far. I have a video tutorial for you showing how to do each part, but there is also a photo tutorial in the original pattern designed by Cathering Bligh. The design is inspired by the character Demelza from Poldark, a series of novels written by Winston Graham in the 20th century and adapted for television by the BBC.

Colorway

I am using 13 lovely colors of Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn with a 3.5mm hook to make my Demelza blanket. We are making 4 panels this week so I have made them all the same colorway. Here my colorway for this week.

Round  Colorway
1 & 2Canada Jade (806)
3 & 4Boulder Opal (804)
5 & 6Coral (816)
7 & 8Citrine (817)
9 & 10Green Agate (815)
11 & 12Red Jasper (807)
13 & 14Coral (816)
15 & 16New Jade (819)
17 & 18Lilac Quartz (818)
19 & 20Corundum Ruby (808)
21 & 22Deep Amethyst (811)
23 & 24Amazonite (813)
25 & 26Lemon Quartz (812)

You can work your tails in as you go or leave them till the end. I did the latter and had a very stress-less evening working away all my tails. A tip, undo the knot from the standing stitch used to make a new row, this way it is easier to get a clean and straight edge.

Yarn amounts so far

At this point I have used varying amounts of the all my colors. Rounding up, I have used the following balls of yarn so far: 2 x Moonstone (801), 3 x Boulder Opal (804), 2 x Canada Jade (806), 2 x Red Jasper (807), 2 x Corundum Ruby (808), 2 x Deep Amethyst (811), 1 x Lemon Quartz (812), 2 x Amazonite (813), 2 x Green Agate (815), 2 x Coral (816), 2 x Citrine (817), 2 x Lilac Quartz (818), and 1 x New Jade (819)

You can buy Scheepjes Stone Washed from Wool Warehouse (UK), Jimmy Bean Wools (USA), Love Crafts (USA), The Knitting Network (UK), Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU), or your local Scheepjes Stockist.

Two weeks from now we are making the final element of our blanket before we can start assembly. Yes, you guessed it, the center square is up for next time.

With love,
Esther
