Another year has come and gone; I am a year older and so is my blog. My blog is turning 2 today, I on the other hand am turning 38. And no, I am not worried that I am closer to 40 than to 30. Becoming older is part of becoming wiser and learning new things; and I love to learn new things!
To celebrate my birthday, I got myself from the lovely Beth at Koru Tumi. She has a Birthday Month box subscription which is a once-off subscription in which she sends you a surprise box in the month of your birthday.
In the October box there were a lot of small threats all gathered around a “Calendula” theme. In the box was a mini fudge slab from Winifred’s Homemade Fudge, a handmade and all natural Calendula balm from Herbal Harmony, a wax melt sent from Butterfly Scents, a cheerful yellow mini yarn skein from Devon Sun Yarns, a crochet hook created exclusively by Beth for this gift box, a Calendula flower stitch marker that I just adore handmade by Beth, no less than 3 meters of birthday chain, and a broach pin holder. All of this neatly packed in a flat box so that it would fit through my mail box and decorated with dried flower petals. Oh, and almost forgot, there was a pattern too to make 3 Calendula flowers.
I tucked in immediately! I set myself a cup of thee and I can tell you that fudge is heavenly. I spend a relaxing morning making 3 cute little flowers. The yarn is just perfect for this project because it has a very slight color variation which makes the flowers look very natural. After all, no two flower petals are ever exactly the same.
I glued one of the flowers to the broach pin which in turn I will connect to my jacket when I go to yarn and crochet fairs. The two other flowers I left with a yarn tail to connect to a future project, possibly a purse or a bag.
I am taking a small holiday break with my family, so it will be a little quiet on my blog the next week or two. After a short rest I will be here again to start a new year with new energy and new ideas.
With love,
Esther

Happy Birthday Ester! It’s my birthday month too, tho I have a “few” years on you. I want to thank you for all your help in the last two years. I was a complete newbie when I stumbled upon your site. I wanted to make Sophie, but knew it was not possible with only the pattern. I have made beautiful things thanks to your help. Especially the little things that don’t seem to be answered anywhere, like exactly where to join a slip st. Again, Happy Birthday, Ester and Ester’s blog!
