Sophie’s Universe: THE BOOK!

When I heard that Dedri was publishing her fabulous Sophie’s Universe as a book, my mind went to The Lord of the Rings were one purpose brought Elves, Dwarfs, Men and Hobbits together and united them despite their differences. Somehow Sophie’s Universe has done the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a million people have and still are making a Sophie; a million people from ten thousands of families, thousands of nations and hundreds of countries. How wonderful that one blanket can bring us all together.

My journey with Sophie

It has been almost two years to the day that I asked Dedri if I could make video tutorials for her Sophie’s Garden. I asked Dedri for permission for Sophie’s Garden, NOT Sophie’s Universe. At this point I had only done video tutorials for Marinke’s CAL in 2014 and I had little on my Crochet CV. Dedri took an enormous leap of faith when she said “yes” to my request. To this day I think Dedri didn’t quite read my email properly, because she replied saying that she would love for me to make video tutorials for Sophie’s Universe. I thought to myself “ok…, that was more than I bargained for!”

Sophie’s Universe put me on the crochet map, after Sophie I have done more fabulous projects and worked with many talented designers. Dedri blessed me when she gave me permission to make the video tutorials for her, and I believe that my tutorials have blessed her in return. I will always treasure my signed copy with a personal note from Dedri.

My Sophie’s

My first Sophie is currently living with her creator; Dedri has the Sophie I made in rainbow colors with Scheepjes Cotton 8 yarn.

I am currently working on a second Sophie in pure white, my Snow White Sophie. My second Sophie is a summer holiday project because I only work on her during the summer holiday. Inevitably this means that it is going to take me a few years to finish her. She is currently in storage till the next summer holiday, but for somethings as special as Sophie The Book she is allowed out of her winter hibernation.

Where to get your copy

I know that many of you are wanting to have a copy of Sophie’s Universe The Book. The book is available from Wool Warehouse, Bol.com (NL) and many other bookshops and yarn retailers. The first print was sold out in record time, but happily a new print is now available.

Win a copy of Sophie’s Book

I have two copies of Sophie’s Universe The Book to give away to two lucky people. Go to my Facebook page, and below the post about this book share a photo of your Sophie’s Universe or if you don’t have a Sophie of your own then share a Sophie that you love. I will randomly choose two lucky people in the comments and announce the winner on March 30th, 2017.

With love,

Esther

  1. What a nice story Esther. The most I love your metaphor of the Lord of the Rings. It is just that what makes me so glad following the world wide web groups around crochet.
    Have a lovely weekend

  2. I LOVE this book! It’s beautiful inside and out and it’s so much nicer following the pattern from a book rather than squinting at a computer screen or shuffling loads of printouts. I hope more designers do the same 🙂

  3. You know, I love to read your blog, Esther – but I have one small problem. Everything you release a pattern or blog about – I buy! I just ordered the yarn for Sophie’s Universe and will also get the book. As quick as you are to upload new things I’m just hoping my bank account can keep up with my new found addiction! Thank goodness Wool Warehouse is SO affordable for me! Even though I live in the states they are my new ‘home’ yarn shop. Thanks for all you do, your stories, videos, patterns. =0} This whole new found community has brought much joy to me!

  4. I just love your videos and Sophie, i got tired of trying to order from amazon and ordered from the source, I will treasure it as much as the 2 Sopies I have made and a 3rd in the making, I am trying to keep one for myself but tend to give them to Wonderful Friends. So thank you for all your help with Sophie.

    1. Hi, I live in the states as well so this may be helpful to you. I checked and Amazon is currently out of stock on the book. If you use Wool Warehouse, although they are in the UK their price is great. Use discount code sc33 for a 10% discount. With shipping the conversion from GBP to USD is $22.68. I use them for ALL of my yarn etc. I think you’d be happy with their service :0) Hope this helps!
