Nuts about Squares CAL – Week 7

We are over the half-way mark already for Nuts about Squares CAL, how times just goes! The name of the square we are making this week kind of says it all… The square is called Fantastic and in my opinion it is just fantastic! Fantastic is designed by the just as fantastic Julie Yeager. Are those too many fantastics in one paragraph…? 😉

Julie has kindly made the pattern available for free for Nuts about Squares CAL. If you would like to support her you can purchase a pdf version of the pattern on Ravelry.

Yarn kits

The 3 colorways Nuts about the EarthNuts about the Sea, and Nuts about the Sky are available as kits. You can use one of the suggested kits/colorways, or you can use your own colors and yarn.

I have kits available for all three Nuts About Squares Colorways in my SHOP HERE. Choose between Nuts About Squares – EARTH in Scheepjes Stone Washed, Nuts About Squares – SEA in Scheepjes Colour Crafter, and Nuts About Squares – SKY in Scheepjes Sunkissed.

I have a detailed post with all the yarn information, amounts, weights and color combinations for the 3 colorways, you can find the yarn/color information HERE.

Color chart

The colors for each row are given in the Color Chart Week 7 for each of the three colorways or you can follow the general colorway in the table below.

Instructions Nuts about Squares week 7

Use the following hook sizes to make your squares or the hook size you need to get the correct size (Note this is 0.5mm more than you used for week 1):

  • Color Crafter – 4.5mm
  • Stone Washed – 4.0mm
  • Sunkissed – 3.5mm

My testers and I found that this square turned out smaller than our other squares, going up a hook size fixed it for us.

Work Rounds 1 to 13 according to the written pattern or video tutorial using the colorway for week 7 given above. Work 3 squares in total.

At this point you have 35 stitches per side counting between the center sc stitches. Work an extra round to bring the final stitch count to 44 stitches per side. Round 14 using color A, attach yarn with a standing hdc or ch2 in any sc-corner stitch, 1hdc in same stitch, ch2, and 2hdc in same corner stitch. This is your new corner made. *Skip first st, repeat (2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st) 3 times, 1hdc on each of the next 22 sts, repeat (2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st) 3 times, (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in next sc-corner stitch. Repeat from * 3 more times, omitting the last corner on the final repeat. Join to the first st with a ss. [44 hdc per side]

Repeat Round 14 for all 3 squares. Round 14 is also shown in THIS VIDEO. Block your squares to the following sizes:

  • Color Crafter – 25cm (10in)
  • Stone Washed – 22cm (9in)
  • Sunkissed – 20cm (7.5in)

Nederlandse Instructies (Dutch) voor Nuts about Squares week 7

Maak in totaal 3 vierkantjes.

  • Color Crafter – 25cm
  • Stone Washed – 22cm
  • Sunkissed – 20cm

Video tutorials

If you appreciate a visual support to the pattern, you can follow the video for Fantastic. This video shows you how to make the original square.

After you have completed the original pattern you need to add an extra round using Color A to bring your total stitch count to 44 stitches. I also show you how to do this in a short video.

  1. Hi. Cant seem to get the written pattern to download , only the tutorial. Done all the previous patterns with no problems.

  3. hi esther thank you for this pretty square , but when i made it , it was a 23 cm .
is it ok ? or i will have aproblem when i starting joining my squares ?

    1. It depends on the size of your other squares. Of it is just a cm or so different, it will be fine. Of it is more like 3 or 4cm, that is a lot. Then consider changing your hook size.

  4. Hoi Esther,

      1. Dank voor je uitleg. Is me nu duidelijk.
