What can I say? I’m a collector. Don’t worry, I’m not a hoarder, my house does not look like something exploded in it; I am actually a very organized person. But one thing that I do love to collect is crochet magazines, books and patterns. There is no way I will ever be able to make all the patterns that I have, but I still want them.
After Parties
Take the Scheepjes After Parties for example. I love having them, looking at them, stacking them into a nice pile and putting them on my shelf. Each time a new one is released I’m like “gotta get that one too”. Does that sounds a bit like an addiction? 😉
There are things in there I will most likely never make like the knit and amigurumi patterns, but I think I might just make an exception for the Shawl of Secrets by Sarah Knight. That is such a lovely pattern, when I learn how to knit I am so gonna make that!
Books, books, books
You can never have too many books. I have a friend who’s a librarian and she will totally confirm that! I have many crochet books ranging from basic stitch books to patterns and projects. Some of my favorites are the granny square books and the rag doll books. Again, I will most likely never make a rag doll, but I so love having the books. The designer of the rag dolls, Sascha Blase, is so talented.
To my knowledge Sascha’s books are only available in Dutch, and are available from Bol.com (NL). The granny books must be available in English somewhere, but I haven’t seem them as such. However, there are many alternatives available from many yarn stockists.
My most favorite collectible….
We all have our favorite favorites, and my favorite thing among all my patterns and books is my Sophie book by my friend Dedri Uys. She signed my copy for me and I still love it the most of all my patterns. I am actually purposefully not using it to make my Snow White Sophie because I don’t want to damage it.

I loved your post Esther! My first CAL was Demelza last year, and I loved listening to your accent! Your videos were so helpful! Thank you for sharing your talent with us! I want to learn how to knit too! I’m making a pathetic dish cloth right now, and I have no idea how to fix stitches. Are you using stylecraft yarn for Sophie? I think Sophie will be my winter project this year!

I’ve been collecting knitting patterns for over 30 years, all started with baby clothes for my eldest, only been crocheting for a couple of years, learnt by watching your videos.. mandala was the first followed by dancing in the rain, Demelza, nuts about squares….took a while but I can now understand written patterns and graphs…….just finished a maremaids tails for friends children……my second grandchild is due in march…..I’ve been looking through all my crochet mags for ideas……mindyou im just as bad with yarn………my stash grows weekly……lol

Love your post about books and patterns! I always say if I live to be a thousand I still wouldn’t have used all of them! My favorite is also the Sophie book! I have made five of them and will make one more soon (I have 6 granddaughters and they LOVE Sophie!)!
But I love your Nuts about square CAL, I participated and made two of them for my daughters. It will be for Christmas. I’m so glad I found you.

I too have to agree with all that you said and its SO NICE to know I am not alone in the world! with all the books! (add quilting to that too…eek!) but I am also so glad that the majority of my collecting either free or bought can fit on the size of a period at the end of a sentence in a folder on my computer!! Phew! because it coming close to a TB in size! I too will probably never..oh heck, I know I will never make most of this stuff, but, having it is just plain wonderful.
Also, I have followed your videos continuously and I have to say, I could listen to your voice for ever, it is so calming and makes me feel like I can actually do the complicated stitches and have them turn out. Bless you for all that you do!

We are soul sisters! My story is the same. I am obsessed with patterns and love them all. Good to know I am not alone. I try to only do digital now to save space and help me to organize my patterns better. Blessings!

I’ll never have time to crochet all the patterns I’ve saved, I can’t help myself when I see a beautiful square or blanket! I’d love to learn to knit too and that I’m sure would mean even more patterns and yarn.

I like your squares I’m beginner & love to make all of your patterns they are very nice. I mostly like work with threads. wool is my second choice. I’m an Indian residues in Punjab city Ludhiana.

I just received my kit for the Sea pattern afghan, will the videos be on for me to follow ,I am not sure how long it will take me to crochet all the squares. Also, do you have video of the Sea pattern., or a written pattern, I am concerned about color placement of the yarn .

Oh yes, it feels so good to know that others are obsessed with patterns too! 🙂 If I see a beautiful pattern I just HAVE TO print and save it. Even though I know there will never be enough time to do them all… But, as you say, just having them there to look at, is sometimes enough.
My next project will be the Spirits of life CAL (can´t wait!!) and after that I plan to begin my first Sophie, just last week I received the wonderful book and the yarn to make it. So I think I have enough lovely stuff to do for this winter. 🙂
I also wanna take the opportunity to thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial-videos. They have been a tremendous help in many projects I have made. I am so amazed by this crochet society where you designers/bloggers work together and make our “ordinary” crocheters world so much richer! Thank you for doing what you do!! ❤
