It is getting a bit monotonous, I know, but the temperatures in my city are insanely high and have been relentless for the last month now. We are in an official heat wave that has started on July 12th, and is still going strong. Looks like we might be heading for some lower temperatures in a week or two, but they will still be in the low 20C’s (70F’s). Time to show you what a hot and dry July looks like in my C2C Make Along 2018 temperature blanket. I am using 35 shades of Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat with a 2.5mm (US 4) hook. Under Resources you find everything you need for the Make Along.

What an insane year this is to make a temperature blanket. This is the driest and hottest year in Dutch history since 1901, the year we started to record temperatures and rainfall. My city has not had rain since the end of May and the nature reserves surrounding my city are hard hit. There is some unique flora in the reserves here, and some of them are being damaged beyond recovery. That is how dry it is. We have a rain shortage of over 200mm, and with temperatures of 35C (95F) and higher we have been having this last week, plants and animals are suffering. I have given up trying to rescue my lawn, and there are a few plants in my garden that I think will not make it either.
On the other side, as a result of all of this insane heat, my blanket looks like it’s on fire. I have so much red in there it’s insane. July has had temperatures of 25C (75F) and higher going up to a max recorded temperature of 37C (100F). I only defined temperatures up to 35C (95F), and honestly, when I made the chart I really wasn’t expecting to use the Black Coffee color I defined for 35C (95F). But here we are, I have made several stripes for 35C+ and the weather forecast gives me the feeling there may be a few more stripes finding their way into my blanket. You know, it really doesn’t matter how I fold my blanket, all I see is red!
Important date: August 10th – starting to decrease
We have kept our diagonal constant since the end of May and the stripes in the blanket are at their maximum length of 145 pixels at the moment. This means that it takes quite some time to work a row each day. But luckily August marks the start of the final stage of our blanket.
Starting August 10th, we decrease the diagonal with one pixel each day. This means that from August 10th, your blanket will have 3 corners, and as we work towards the end of the year we are slowing working towards the final corner which we will work on December 31st. That seams a long way off, but the year is way over it’s halfway point already, and I know I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures autumn will bring.
All the details about how to decrease the diagonal are in the written pattern. ❤
Make your own #C2CMAL2018 blanket
To make your own blanket you need to align temperatures to colors. I have given you an example in my Color Chart C2C Temperature Blanket Make ALong 2018. However, feel free to change the range of the temperatures to better suite your local situation. I have decided to use the maximum temperature registered by the official weather station in my city as the temperature for each day of the year. You can use the Empty Color Chart to register the temperature in your city so that you can keep track of which color goes where. Finally you need the pattern, we are going to keep increasing the diagonal for some time still, so just keep going for the time being.

In a few weeks I will share what August looks like, hopefully we will exchange some of the reds and purples for orange and maybe even a bit of yellow.
