About Baby Elements

Baby Elements is the sequel to the fabulous Elements blanket designed by Sandra Kuijer from Hooks and Yarn. Baby Elements is the boldest baby blanket I have seen in a long time. The blanket is approximately 85cm x 62cm (35″ x 25″) and uses two light worsted / aran weight yarns in combination with a 4.5mm and 5.0mm hook in 5 parts. The blanket has flowers to make it sweet, and rhythmic linen and granny stitches to give it that sturdy look.

Colorway and Yarn Amounts

Baby Elements uses 4 colors of Scheepjes Cahlista, and one color of Scheepjes Soft Fun. The Cahlista is used for the details in the blanket whereas the Soft Fun is a background color.  I thought, because this is a baby blanket and because I somehow associate babies with pastels and with rainbows, that I will use a small, pastel shaded rainbow in my blanket. I am using a soft white background color for my blanket.

To make a Baby Elements, you need 4 colors of Scheepjes Cahlista, and one color of Scheepjes Soft Fun. You will need the following yarn amounts and materials to make your Baby Elements:

Scheepjes Soft Fun and Scheepjes Cahlista are available from Wool Warehouse (UK/Int), Deramores (UK), Black Sheep Wools (UK), Knotty House (CA/UK), Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU) and many other Scheepjes retailers.

Video Tutorials

To help you with the tricky bits, and maybe just to keep you company, I have video tutorials available for all 5 part of Baby Elements. In this playlist on my YouTube channel you find them all.

My Baby Elements

I made a rainbow baby blanket, and I am very pleased with how it turned out. Over the weeks we started with a small square, and quite fast we were already working on the lovely flower details.

In parts 3 and 4 we made the flowers, and in the final part 5 we made the blanket it it’s full size. The rainbow colorway makes this blanket fresh and fun, and suitable for both a boy or a girl.

And that’s it, all done!

Hope to see you soon for a new project.

With love,

Esther

  1. Hi Esther… Loved the videos and finished the baby blanket just in time for a baby shower! (can’t post on IG yet, bc I don’t want the new mother-to-be to see it yet…) Any tips on blocking? I’m finding my center is popping up a little. I’ve never blocked a blanket before… can I pin and “square up” around each “section of the blanket”, and not just pin down the outer border? Thank you for any help on this! Or.. do you have any videos on blocking?
