Time to make Part 4 of d’Histoire Naturelle Blanket designed by Christina from A Spoonful of Yarn. I believe part 4 is the most challenging part of the entire project, and I hope to help you as much as possible. We start by making 3 different motifs, which we join to make a corner shape, which we in turn join to our blanket after which we can start making complete rounds around our blanket again. Part 4 is a lot of work, so take your time and use both weeks we have available for this part. In this post you find the links to the written patterns, the video tutorials, and all other things you might need under resources and video tutorials.

d’Histoire Naturelle – Part 4 Video Tutorials
Find all video tutorials for d’Histoire Naturelle in one YouTube playlist on my YouTube channel. You can also find the videos on the Scheepjes website and in the English and Dutch Facebook groups. I will have the videos available as in English UK Terminology – Right handed, English UK Terminology – Left handed, Nederlands – Rechtshandig, and Nederlands – Linkshandig. In the video description you can find links to the starting point of each round, which is really useful considering that the videos are over 3 hours (!) long.
My d’Histoire Naturelle: Herbarium
I am using the Stone Washed Herbarium colorway to make my blanket. The square we made in part 1 turned into an octagon crawling with bugs in part 2, and in part 3 we made a circle decorated with leaves. In part 4, we are walking through the mineralogy department, and are making mineral motifs to attach to our blanket.
As a whole, the blanket is now a strange square. Don’t worry about the weird dip in the middle of your blanket, it will be filled with animals next time we meet.
Keep hanging in there with the motifs and corner shapes. I will see you next time for the start of the border rounds.
With love,
Esther

Hi Esther, I’m not a facebook user, so I thought I’d ask you here… I am constantly having trouble with stitch counts and stitches when it comes to joins. I’ve figured out how to do a standing stitch in a join, but when I come to a join from the previous round, I don’t know what to do with it…. whether I’m supposed to skip it or stitch in it. My stitch counts usually get all thrown off. Especially in the Agate round… can’t seem to get it right. Do you have a video explaining that? Or is there a quick explanation? Thanks so much!–Gayle

the thing is to ignore the slip stitch, it looks like an extra stitch, but work over it, into the stitch that the ss is made in. That way your stitch count should remain constant.
