Snowflake Blanket finally finished!

Fast forward a year from my post from last week. Remember, I gave my Snowflake Blanket using Scheepjes Cotton 8 and Sunkissed yarn to Shirly when I had it about a third done, and asked her to finish it at the own pace. Tadah! This is what my blanket looks like now, but only after Shirly almost had a heart attack. Let me tell you why.

While Shirly was working on the blanket, she send me photo’s from time to time, and it looked just wonderful, especially when the blanket started getting close to the three-quarter mark and onwards. And then, when the blanket was finished, Shirley laid it out to take a final pic for me, and we spotted it! Two of the split granny squares are turned the wrong way. Disaster!! Can you spot the two mistakes on the blanket below-left?

Like I said, Shirly felt so miserable. She had spend hours, and hours, and hours on this blanket for me, and taking it all out really wasn’t an option. That’s the down side of join-as-you-go, the squares are interlinked, which means it’s not straight forward to fix a mistake like this. I told her, don’t worry, I’ll fix it.

I sat myself down in the sun (long time ago, I know), and I installed lifelines through the stitches catching on to the wrong squares. I cut out the two wrong squares, and made a new ones. Then, I worked the join-as-you-go backwards, securing the new squares in place. This is not straight forward, as it requires quite some insight in how stitches are constructed. After an hour of major surgery, my blanket is done, with all the split squares turned in the right direction. All is well that ends well.

That’s really another advantage of cotton yarns, they are insanely versatile, and can withstand major surgery like this, no problem.

Back to today, I took my blanket for a photoshoot in the park. It was cold, and we had frost the night before. The lake was still frozen over, and there was only a small area where the birds could swim. Winter also has it’s beauty, but honestly, I am a summer person.
