Color fading into a diamondiferous shawl

I know you are all wanting to know what I am making from the color changing Scheepjes Whirl Fine Arts and matching Merino Soft that I showed you last week. The idea is to extend the Whirl Fine Arts either side with the Merino Soft, hence keeping the color transition intact, but extending the first and last color on the Whirl Fine Arts cake. I have a Whirl Fine Art Impressionism with about 5 balls of Merino Soft Bellini and Chagall in my project bag.

I want to design a scarf or a shawl or a stole, and I want to have some kind of diamond pattern in there. I started with a knitted design, since you are all super excited about the the first ever Scheepjes Knit-ALong Sassenach available in three gorgeous colorways Cirsium, Rosa, and Erica. I can’t blame you for being excited, it’s a lovely design!

I knitted just over the first repeat, and my goodness, this took me hours and hours to knit, so the shawl is going to take me FOREVER to get done! I am such a slow knitter; it just isn’t working for me. Plus, it is actually turning out a lot smaller than I want it to be. Time for a new plan!

Plan B, which is way better than Plan A, is to crochet a shawl with the diamond pattern just like in the knitted sample, but adapted slightly and worked with only double crochet and chain stitches to make for easy crocheting. In one word, marvelous! It works up super fast and it looks great too. Look how far I came in just a day or two. (And incase you are wondering, I did do some housework too!)

The next thing that I have to start thinking about is a name. After some thought, I have decided to name my design Diamondiferous Delight Shawl. The word diamondiferous means “containing diamonds” and is used as a adjective to describe something that contains diamonds. I think that describes this shawl perfectly, because it contains loads of diamonds.

Over the next week I will finish the sample, show you the final result next week, and share the free pattern with you two weeks from now.
