XL yarn for a new project

I’ve had a box full of Scheepjes Stone Washed XL and River Washed XL yarn in my stash ever since the River Washed XL yarn was introduced a few years ago. It’s my ambition to slowly reduce my stash by either using it to make something pretty or to give it to someone who will. For this yarn I am going to make something pretty, I hope!

I have not used the Scheepjes Stone Washed XL or River Washed XL yarns before, no particular reason, it just never happed. If you are familiar with the ‘regular’ Scheepjes Stone Washed yarns, and you like the look and feel of the yarn, you will also enjoy the XL version. The XL yarn is an arran/worsted weight yarn and is worked with a 5mm hook which means it works up super fast.

Just like the regular Stone Washed yarn, Stone Washed XL also has a cotton core with an acrylic fuss around the core. The overall feel of the XL yarn is in my opinion is bit fluffier than the regular yarn.

Scheepjes Stone Washed XL and River Washed XL are available from Wool Warehouse (UK/Int), Black Sheep Wools (UK), Caro’s Atelier (NL/BE), and many Scheepjes Stockists world wide.

The difference between Stone Washed and River Washed, both for the regular and XL version, is the color of the core. The Stone Washed yarn has a white cotton core, and the River Washed yarns have a colored core like yellow, cherry or blue. You can match the River Washed yarns based on matching fluff colors or core colors. The fluff colors used in the River Washed yarns are also available in the Stone Washed yarns, but then with the white core. All in all, a lot of different color combinations to choose from!

I am going to make squares with the gorgeous yarn, and turn the squares into a blanket. I don’t know if I will use all the colors that I have in my stash, I will see how many squares I get out of a ball and take it from there. Pop in next week when I will let you know how things are going with the squares.

With love,
Esther

  1. I have not worked with the River Washed XL, but absolutely love the Stone Washed XL. I have completed 2 of Helen Shrimpton’s Mandala Madness with it. The cotton sore added just the right weight to the afghan & the muted colors are amazing. The judges at a local Country Fair thought so also & awarded it Best in Show. It was a real delight to work with & having your wonderful voice in the videos was a definite plus.
