Video tutorials Peacock Tail Bag CAL part 4

How is your overlay crochet bag coming along? I know mine is doing very well and this week we are adding even more detail to an already beautiful bag. In Part 4 of Peacock Tail Bag designed by Tatsiana from Lilla Bjorn Crochet we are making lots more texture and fun color effects. On Tatsiana’s blog you can find the original US pattern and many translations.

Also for this part I have split the front and back parts into two videos and added markers to the description of the videos on YouTube so that you can easily jump to a specific round if you want to. You can find the video links for the front and back of the bag on my dedicated page here on my blog or on my YouTube channel.

Video Tutorials Peacock Tail Bag CAL part 1

Today is a happy day! We get to start with our Peacock Tail Bag designed by the very talented Tatsiana from Lilla Bjorn Crochet. This first part is still reasonably straightforward with the front and back parts being the same for the first few rounds.

Video tutorials

I have decided to split the front and back part of the bag into two videos to make it easier for you. I have also added markers to the description of the videos on YouTube so that you can easily jump to a specific round if you want to. You can find the video links for the front and back of the bag on my dedicated page here on my blog or on my YouTube channel.

Colorway

I am using Linen Soft in the following colors: 614 as that is my main color in addition to 622, 625, 626 and 627. I have used my colors for part 1 in the following way.

Round   Font  Back
1 622 – light green 622 – light green
2 627 – green 627 – green
3 626 – pink 626 – pink
4 622 – light green 622 – light green
5 627 – green 627 – green
6 626 – pink 626 – pink
7 622 – light green 622 – light green

It doesn’t matter how you place your colors on the back of your bag. You can use the back part of your bag to use leftovers from other projects if you have the same yarn. For the front of your bag color placement is more important.

Some tips

The most important thing you want to look for is that the front and back of your bag are the same size. If there is a little difference that is not a problem, but if it gets too much your bag is going to look a bit wonky when finished.

Announcement: Peacock Tail Bag CAL

I am happy to announce a new crochet along starting this summer that I will be making video tutorials for. In August and September we will be making a beautiful bag with a peacock theme. The Peacock Tail Bag CAL is made using overlay crochet and is designed by the very talented Tatsiana from Lilla Bjorn Crochet.

Yarn

To make this bag you will need 6 balls of Scheepjes Linen Soft yarn in 5 colors; for the main color of the bag you will need 2 balls and of the other 4 colors you will need 1 ball of each. There are two kits available that contain everything you need to make your bag; one in a Peacock colorway and the other in a Pastel colorway as shown in the beautiful photo’s released by Tatsiana. Linen Soft is available from Wool Warehouse (UK/International), Paradise Fibers (US/CA) or your local Scheepjes stockist.

I am, as always, following my own color selection. I am using Linen Soft in the following colors: 2 balls of 614 as that is my main color, and 1 ball each of 622, 625, 626 and 627. These colors follow the general feel of the Peacock kit, but are lighter shades.

Other bits you need

If you have only the yarn you will come to the end of the crochet along and then not be able to use your bag. You need a few extra bits to complete it. You will need a bag handle, 2 30mm D-rings, an 18mm magnetic clasp, interfacing (not shown) and fabric for the lining. You can get all these bits from any supplier or make life easy for yourself and get the kit which includes everything you need. The kits go on sale July 21st from Wool Warehouse, be quick because I think they are going to be in high demand.

Update: Kits are now also available from De Breibar (NL) with additional color combinations and fabric linings.

When do we start?

We start making our bag on Wednesday 17 August 2016 when the first part of the pattern of this six-week project is released. Each week there will be written instructions and full photo tutorials on Tatsiana’s blog as well as a video tutorial on my blog and YouTube channel.

Around the Bases CAL – Video tutorials and colorway

We have come to the end of Around the Bases Crochet Along designed by ChiChi Allen. During these weeks we all made a unique afghan using a different center square and different yarn. I used a square from Wink from the Scheepjes CAL 2014 as my center square.

I just about used all the available colors! You can find a full list of all the colors I used in my color chart, including the extra rounds I added at the end of part 14. Especially for you, a few more photos of my ATB.
