Flight of Fancy wrap – all video tutorials completed

We have come to the end of the Scheepjes crochet along Flight of Fancy designed by Annelies Baes. In the past 11 weeks we have made an amazing and luxurious wrap using Linen Soft yarn. I had the Peacock kit, but many of you had the Hummingbird or Heron kits. Later on in the CAL more and more bids were added to the birdhouse as many of you made your own color combinations. I saw everything from a Banded Broadbill to an Ugly Duckling. The Ugly Duckling has definitely turned into a swan by the end of the CAL. I enjoyed seeing all the color variations and amazing results.

There were 3 kits available for this crochet along that included everything you need to make this wrap including a few extra’s.

All color kits are/were available from Wool Warehouse, Deramores or your Scheepjes stockist.

Video tutorials

I made instruction videos for the entire CAL in English (UK Terminology) and Dutch. All these videos will stay up indefinitely. Time to show you my wrap!

Journey to making my wrap

This was a relaxing project because the motifs were repeating; once you get the hang of one motif you make the same one two weeks in a row. The joining was a lot of work, and I think the picots in the border almost drove me nuts, but looking back it is a lovely wrap now that it’s finished. If you would like to go back, you can read the announcement and posts for week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4, week 5, week 6, week 7, week 8, week 9 & 10.

I really enjoyed making this wrap and I hope you did too. This wrap is now for sale in my Etsy shop, I simply have too many things in my house and I need to make room for new projects.

With love,

Esther

Flight of fancy week 9 & 10 – connecting your wrap

At my house the sun is shining and the birds are singing in the trees. Perfect weather for assembling our Flight of Fancy wrap. It’s finally time to connect all those lovely flowers that you have been making. For assembling the wrap we have an extra week in the CAL , two in stead of the one up till now. Trust me, you are going to need it. It is a massive job connecting all those flowers!

I have videos available in English and Dutch to help you to assemble your wrap. You can also find all the videos for the Flight of Fancy CAL on my dedicated pages [English / Dutch].

A few tips from me to make connecting the flowers a bit easier. I connected all the flowers of one row to the row above with stitch markers. This way I could change the order here and there (I did not completely stick to the suggested layout in the pattern) and then I could not accidentally change the order after I made up my mind. Also, this way I always had the flowers at hand and did not have to go looking for them somewhere at the bottom of my CAL bag 😉

connect all the flowers in one row at once

A second tip I have for you is to mark the positions where you are going to connect the flower to the previous rounds. Trust me, it is really easy to take the wrong loop while you are working with the wrap on your lap. By marking the positions you can prevent mistakes. I know it sounds like a big hassle to reconnect the stitch markers for each flower, but it will save you time in the long run. I also show in the video how I use the stitch markers.

Your bag is now almost empty. Annelies Baes has made a design for covering your bag. The Scheepjes Catona yarn you need to cover the bag is now available as a kit. If you don’t have one of the jute bags that came with the kit because you used a different yarn, you can (very soon) buy these bags on their own. Seriously, I love my bag. It goes with me everywhere I go. It’s small enough to be easy to take along but big enough to carry everything I need for at least one WIP, but usually two 🙂

See you in two weeks for the last part of our wrap and some lovely photos.

Flight of Fancy week 8

It is week 8 of the Scheepjes CAL Flight of Fancy designed by Annelies Baes and we are making our last flowers. This week the motive is the same as last week, which was a fast two-round flower. Designs like this are perfect for these lazy summer vacations where all you want to do is sit in the sun, but at the same time you don’t want to fall behind of course 😉

stack of flight of fancy flowersI know it is a relatively easy motif and that you most probably don’t need a video but just to be complete, here it is anyway. I have a video in English and Dutch and you can find all the videos for the Flight of Fancy CAL on my dedicated pages [English /  Dutch].

We now have an impressive stack of flowers. Just look at mine, it won’t even stand on it’s own!

It’s not too late to join the CAL. There are some amazing new color packs available in addition to the three original Linen Soft Peacock, Hummingbird, & Heron kits. The new kit are based on Scheepjes’s best selling Cotton 8 yarn and are available in colors Peacock, Hummingbird, Heron, Kingfisher or Bee Eater. The great thing about the Cotton 8 kits is that they are a lot cheaper than the Linen Soft kits. All kits are back in stock again at Deramores.

But why keep it at these birds? The birdhouse can be filled with any bird you like. Just visit the Facebook group Scheepjes CAL International for some wonderful bird-inspired color combinations.

See you next week when we start to build our wrap. FINALLY! 😀

Flight of Fancy week 7

Can you believe it? We are already on week 7 of the Scheepjes CAL Flight of Fancy. This week a new motive designed by Annelies Baes and a great one at that because it only has two rounds 😀 This means quick and easy to catch up if you got left behind somewhere.
