Enigma Blanket CAL in CrochetNow Magazine

More than a year ago I was asked if I would like to design a crochet along for CrochetNow Magazine. I gave it some thought, questioning myself if I could design anything good enough, and hesitantly said yes. A mood board, sketches, designing, ripping, counting, designing some more, and a lot of testing later, and the result is something to write home about! With great pride I can finally present the Enigma Blanket to you.

UPDATE: The copyright of the pattern has returned to me and the pattern is now available on Ravelry and here on my website.

Enigma

You might wonder why I chose the name “Enigma” for this blanket. When I was designing it, I continuously felt like I had no idea what I was doing, stitch counts were all over the place sometimes and I took a few steps back quite a few times. It felt like the blanket was a big mystery to me, a puzzle I was trying to solve; one big enigma. The name had a nice ring to it, so I decided to keep it.

The Enigma blanket combines floral stitches and patterns with a continuously changing shape. The blanket starts out as a small mandala which grows out to a large floral circle before it is turned into a square. The square is squared up again in the opposite direction and then becomes a rectangle. The final blanket has a vibrant feel to it with a combination of warm colors, textures, and stitch patterns.

  1. oh wat jammer ( maar begrijpelijk) dat er geen videotutorials worden gemaakt, anders had ik zeker meegedaan.

  2. Dear Esther, I love all your designs and when I saw your videos on YouTube your voice is so calming and explaining a stitch is slow and detailed. Is there any way you would be doing any afghan in a 4 weight yarn. I’m on a fixed income and I have more of a chance to get 4 weight yarns in the colors of your afghans than a dk weight. I would love to have the sheepjes stonewashed but I can’t. Again all of your designs are beautiful and thank you for sharing them. ?

  3. Is there any way the colors can be changed to blues and purples in that color palette?

  4. Hi what exact issues is the pattern in? I’m having a hard time finding it. Also, any version in US terms? I’m in love and looking forward to buying the stone washed version

  5. I so sad .. this years gorgeous CAL is only in a magazine and at £7.99 a pop there is no way I could afford to participate this year…. I so sad

  6. How many parts, exactly, are there? I purchased Crochet Now issues 68 through 80 (your post mentions 13 consecutive issues, beginning with 68), however there’s nothing in issue 80 and issue 79 doesn’t mention that the blanket is complete with part 12 in that issue. Please advise. Thanks.

      1. Sorry to waste your time, with my airhead mistake. ? I purchased 5 crochet magazines, was looking through ALL of them and forgot which one I was looking at. I DID get part 13; found it as soon as I looked in the correct magazine. Thanks! Awesome pattern, btw, which I will start as soon as I finish the 5 WIPs I have going. Cheers.

  7.
