Color Burst Cushion Roll – Free Crochet Pattern

The Color Burst Cushion Roll has been designed as a leftover yarn project for the Enigma Blanket, but it is suitable for any leftover or random yarn you might have. The pattern is sensitive to gauge, because the inner needs to fit the cover, but I give tips for getting it to fit properly. Voor Nederlands, zie aub DEZE post.

Materials

You will need leftover yarn from other projects. In the sample shown here I use DK weight Scheepjes Colour Crafter left over from the Enigma Flower Field colorway to make the large cushion and sport weight Scheepjes Stone Washed also left over from the Enigma Flower Field colorway.

You can buy Scheepjes Stone Washed from Wool Warehouse (UK), Jimmy Bean Wools (USA), Love Crafts (USA), The Knitting Network (UK), Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU), or your local Scheepjes Stockist.

Scheepjes Colour Crafter is available in over 90 colors from Wool Warehouse (UK/Int), Jimmy Beans Wools (USA), The Knitting Network, Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU) or your local Scheepjes stockist.

In addition to yarn, either new or left over from other projects, you will also need

Size

If the cushion inners are well stuffed, the DK weight cushion will be 65cm long and have a diameter of 22cm. The sport weight cushion will be 55cm long with a diameter of 15cm.

Notes

The cushion is made by working two circular side panels and a continuous tube for the roll. The side panels are meant to be slightly smaller than the cushion inner. If your gauge is very different to mine, simply work more or less repeats of round 5 as needed to get the correct size for the side panels. If you have changed the number of round 5 repeats on your panel due to your gauge, you will also have to change the number of starting chains for the roll section of your cushion. When starting the roll of the cushion, make as many starting chains as you have stitches on the side panels.

With the exception of the first and last 2 rounds, the roll section is worked using random colors in any order you like. This allows you to use your left over yarn in the most optimal way. If you run out of one color, simply use another. The first and last 2 rounds are made in color A of the Enigma blanket, to match the color used on the side panels. If your gauge is different to mine, you will need more or less repeats on the roll section. Adjust as needed, making the last 2 rounds in Color A.

Assembly

To assemble the cushion, align one of the side panels with one edge of the roll. You should have the same number of stitches on both edges. With color A, work a sc though two aligning stitches all the way round, closing with a sl st on the first st.

Inset the cushion inner into the tube, align the second side panel with the second side of the roll and repeat the same sc closing.

Finished result

I have two roll cushions now, just fabulous. They work really well on a bed or to just have anywhere in the house.
