Mix and Match Mandalas CAL – Large Mandala I

We are now in the third week of my Mix and Match Mandala CAL, and in this part I release the first large mandala. With Large Mandala I you can extend any of the possible 9 medium sized mandalas to a large, 40cm mandala.

In this post I release the video tutorial showing how to make Large Mandala I. The video is available in English and Dutch, left and right handed. You can get your copy of the written pattern and charts by grabbing Mix and Match Mandalas in my webshop or follow along with the video tutorials on my YouTube Channel for free.

To make Large Mandala I, I first started with a making a small mandala followed by a medium mandala. It doesn’t matter which combination of small and medium mandalas you take, I chose to use Small Mandala I and Medium Mandala I.

Here are the colors I used for Small Mandala I.

ROUNDCOLOR
Round 1Color A – 130 Old Lace
Round 2Color G – 114 Shocking Pink
Round 3Color G – 114 Shocking Pink
Round 4Color D – 282 Ultraviolet
Round 5Color A – 130 Old Lace
Round 6Color A – 130 Old Lace
Round 7Color C – 226 Light Orchid
Round 8Color C – 226 Light Orchid
Round 9Color I – 146 Vivid Blue

At the end of Round 9, I continue with the pattern for Medium Mandala I and add the following colors for each round. I purposefully used the same color for the last round of the small mandala and the first round of the medium mandala because then the color pattern flows better.

ROUNDCOLOR
Round 1Color I – 146 Vivid Blue
Round 2Color F – 208 Yellow Gold
Round 3Color D – 282 Ultraviolet
Round 4Color G – 114 Shocking Pink
Round 5Color G – 114 Shocking Pink
Round 6Color B – 246 Icy Pink

Similar to when I completed the small mandala, now that I have completed the medium sized mandala, I continue with the pattern for Large Mandala I. Here are the colors I used for Large Mandala I.

ROUNDCOLOR
Round 1Color D – 282 Ultraviolet
Round 2Color A – 130 Old Lace
Round 3Color B – 246 Icy Pink
Round 4Color C – 226 Light Orchid
Round 5Color D – 282 Ultraviolet
Round 6Color D – 282 Ultraviolet
Round 7Color H – 397 Cyan
Round 8Color H – 397 Cyan
Round 9Color A – 130 Old Lace

I completed Large Mandala I by attaching it to a 40cm ring. I used the same color as the last round of the mandala to attach it to the ring, i.e. Color A – 130 Old Lace.

Scheepjes Catona is available from Amazon.co.uk, Wool Warehouse (UK), Jimmy Beans Wool (USA), The Knitting Network (UK), Love Crafts (USA / UK), Caro’s Atelier (NL / EU), and many other Scheepjes stockists.

Gauge

Gauge is really important because the mandalas need to fit in the ring. Large Mandala I tends to be a bit smaller than the other two Large Mandala patterns. Change the rounds in your small and medium mandalas as needed to get the right size before starting with Large Mandala I.

Large Mandala I

I have a right handed and left handed video tutorial showing step-by-step how to make Large Mandala I.

Ik heb de video voor hoe je Grote Mandala I maakt ook in het Nederlands. Hierbij de Nederlandstalige video’s voor rechtshandige en linkshandige makers.
