Hygge CAL Video Tutorials – Week 1

Yes, the day has finally come! We can start working on the Scheepjes Hygge CAL designed by the lovely Kirsten from Haak Maar Raak.

Video tutorials

In week 1 of Hygge we are making multicolored bobbles on the stone washed background. I show you how to work the bobbles and, maybe a new thing for some of you, I also show you how to work with two colors at the same time. The videos are available in English and Dutch, with left and right handed versions in both languages. Please note that in the English video I use UK crochet terms.

I love the bobbles and the bright colors of the Rainbow kit. I used one of my squirrel stitch markers to make sure nothing happens to the working loop. Isn’t he just the cutest thing!

Yarn and kits for Hygge CAL

If you are only just joining in, there are 4 colorway kits to choose from. You can choose between the Rainbow, Jewel, Pastel and Danish Mermaid colorways. The kits contain 10 balls of Stone Washed yarn, 11 balls of Catona yarn and extra goodies to get you in the Hygge mindset. Goodies include a button, a charm, a stitch marker, a yarn needle and 2 wooden ice crystals. The kits are available from Wool Warehouse, Deramores, or your Scheepjes stockist.

Next week we start with the embroidery which I just love about this project. Hope to see you then.

With love,

Esther

  1. Thank you for the video tutorial this is really helpful as I am a beginner to crochet. I was surprised that Week 1 started with the bobbles because looking at the completed wrap there seems to be quite a number of rows worked prior to the bobbles and they appear to be in a slightly different pattern. Does his mean that the CAL does differ from he design shown on the promotional material?

  2. Loved your video, it’s wonderful to have clear visuals from a left handed perspective. I won’t be starting mine until next week, when I’m back in Canada but I’m confident I’ll catch up after reading the pattern and watching your video. Thank you again 🙂

  6. Thank you for your adorable pattern. I finished for week 1, and I wonder week 1’s size. I knit week 1 after knit gauge, but I feel little small. So if you let me know size(week 1’s wide and high), I’ll really appreciate it. Thank you.

  7. Goedemiddag Esther,

        Fijne avond.

  8. Good morning! My wool has arrived, so I shall be catching up over the weekend.
I have a question which has bothered me for years and was wondering if anyone can answer it.
Every pattern advises that you knit a tension/gauge square, but do they allow for the amount of wool you use when they tell you how many balls you need? I am guessing they do, but have never been sure!
    Many thanks,
    Trisha

  9. Hi Esther,

I just received my Hygge kit yesterday and I am starting week 1. I watched part of the video for the first week and you are making single crochets – not double crochets – in the first 4 rows. I like the way your work looks with the sc and the colored bobbles are prominent in the piece. I tend to crochet loosely and I am concerned that I will run out of yarn. Thank you for the measurements of 35cm wide and 12 to 15cm tall for part one. My work is already wider than 35cm so I am starting over with a smaller hook. Is it possible to provide the measurements for each weeks work?

    Thanks,
    Angela

    • Hello Angela,
I am doing the correct stitch, please note that the video uses UK terms. You are most likely more familiar with US terms.
For more details on size etc, please ask the designer or in the Facebook group hosting the CAL. All the links included en post above.

  10. Is there a written version of each week’s patter? I just got my kit and I am starting. I click on the pattern link for English but I just end up on Scheepes’ website general CAL info page.
