Yarn kits
The 3 colorways Nuts about the Earth, Nuts about the Sea, and Nuts about the Sky are available as kits. You can use one of the suggested kits/colorways, or you can use your own colors and yarn.
I have kits available for all three Nuts About Squares Colorways in my SHOP HERE. Choose between Nuts About Squares – EARTH in Scheepjes Stone Washed, Nuts About Squares – SEA in Scheepjes Colour Crafter, and Nuts About Squares – SKY in Scheepjes Sunkissed.
I have a detailed post with all the yarn information, amounts, weights and color combinations for the 3 colorways, you can find the yarn/color information HERE.
Color chart
The colors for each row are given in the Color Chart Week 11 for each of the three colorways or you can follow the general colorway in the table below.
For the Earth kit, there can be little contrast between the last rounds of square 11.1. Feel free to use Color C – Green Agate for Rounds 12 to 14 in stead of Color B – Boulder Opal.
Instructions Nuts about Squares week 11
Use the following hook sizes to make your squares, or use the hook size you need to get the correct size:
- Color Crafter – 4.0mm (3.5mm for round 3)
- Stone Washed – 3.5mm (3mm for round 3)
- Sunkissed – 3.0mm (2.5mm for round 3)
Work Rounds 1 to 14 of In Like a Lamb, Out Like a Lion according to the written pattern or video tutorial using the colorway for week 11 given above. Make 3 squares.
I used (2dc, 1tr, 2dc) in the last round of the pattern. The extra round, Round 15, is also based on the way I made Round 14. If you do a different stitch and corner, adapt Round 15 as needed.
At this point you have 37 stitches per side counting between the tr corner stitches. Work an extra round to bring the final stitch count to 44 stitches per side.Round 15 using color A, attach yarn with a standing hdc or ch2 in any corner st, 1hdc in same st, ch2, and 2hdc in same corner st. This is your new corner made. *skip the first st, 2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next 30 st, 2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st, (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in next corner st. Repeat from * 3 more times, omitting the last corner on the final repeat. Join to the first st with a ss. [44 hdc per side]
Block all your squares to the following sizes:
- Color Crafter – 25cm (10in)
- Stone Washed – 22cm (9in)
- Sunkissed – 20cm (7.5in)
Nederlandse Instructies (Dutch) voor Nuts about Squares week 11
Maak 3 vierkantjes.
*sla volgende steek over, 2hst in volgende steek, 1hst in volgende steek, 2hst in volgende steek, 1hst in volgende 30 steken, 2hst in volgende steek, 1hst in volgende steek, 2hst in volgende steek, (2hst, 2l, 2hst) in volgende hoeksteek. Herhaal vanaf * nog 3 keer waarbij je de hoek overslaat bij de laatste herhaling. Sluit met 1hv op de eerste steek en hecht af. [44 hst per kant]
Span je vierkantjes op op de volgende maten:
- Color Crafter – 25cm
- Stone Washed – 22cm
- Sunkissed – 20cm
Video tutorials
If you appreciate a visual support to the pattern, you can follow the video for In Like a Lamb, Out Like a Lion which shows you how to make the original square.
After you have completed the original pattern you need to add an extra round using Color A to bring your total stitch count to 44 stitches. I also show you how to do this in a short video.
Share your squares
At this point you are almost done with all your squares, just 6 more to go and then all the squares are completed. If you would like to share your work you can do so in the Official CCC Social Group on Facebook, share it on my Facebook page or tag me in your post on Instagram. If you use the hastag #NutsAboutSquares it will help me find it.
I hope to see all of you next week for part 12 of Nuts about Squares CAL when we will be making our last set of squares before joining our blanket.
With love,
Esther

The instructions for In Like A Lamb are appalling – I have had to sit in front of the computer watching the video and pausing each stitch for rounds 3, 4 and 5 as the written instructions are not worth the paper they are written on. Especially Round 5 – there are NO instructions for this round apart from saying “Nothing too confusing here. Fasten off at end of Round”. SO frustrating.
I have so enjoyed all the other squares as the instructions were clear and easy to follow – this is my last set of 3 squares and I almost gave up and made more of some others already done. I just hope the rest of the rounds are better explained.
I missed getting the free pattern by 2 days. Is there any other way I can get it still ?
The designer has kindly extended the time that the square is available. You should be able gkk download the pattern now with code NUTS2017
Hi, I just discovered this amazing CAL. I know, absolutely way too late! But I still love to make it. The pattern is not available as free download anymore, the code has expired. Can you please advise on how to get the pattern? Thanks!
Many of the pattern parts are available for free. Only two squares are now paid patterns. The video tutorial for all the squares are available for free. The two squares that are no longer for free you could purchase at a small fee, or replace with a different square.

Hi Esther, Thanks so much for this project and your amazing video tutorials. I’m currently making my first of these squares. While you say to use a 4mm hook for Colour Crafter, I notice that you’re using a 4mm for Stone Washed. Would you recommend sizing up for this square if your crochet is on the tighter side?
Just for reference, so far I’ve used the hooks as you’ve suggested and apart from Bavarian Beauty (which is small) most have come out as they should. Thanks, Sue
Hi Sue
I suggest a 3.5mm hook in the pattern
Color Crafter – 4.0mm (3.5mm for round 3)
Stone Washed – 3.5mm (3mm for round 3)
Sunkissed – 3.0mm (2.5mm for round 3)
Possibly I used a wrong hook in the video, I honestly dont remember ?
