Video tutorial Part 1

In part 1 of Elements we learn two new stitch combinations; a granny special and a granny corner. These two stitches is what makes the Elements CAL so unique and give it the textured look. I take you step-by-step through these special stitches and show you how to make part 1.

Yarn & kits

There are official kits available from Hooks and Yarn. However, as always, I am very bad at following a preset colorway so I have made my own colorway using Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn in 5 colors.

Scheepjes Stone Washed is available from Wool Warehouse (UK/International), Love Crochet (US), Knotty House (CA), Caro’s Atelier (NL) or your local Scheepjes Stockist. In addition to the yarn you will also need a 4mm hook. Thank you for supporting my work by buying your yarn through the links on my blog. ❤

Colorway

I have used my 5 colors in the following way for Part 1. Sometimes I follow the order of the pattern, but not always. I used the Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn in combination with a 4mm hook.

  • Round 1 – Moonstone 801
  • Round 2 – Moonstone 801
  • Round 3 – Moonstone 801
  • Round 4 – Moonstone 801
  • Round 5 – Lilac Quartz 818
  • Round 6 – Lilac Quartz 818
  • Round 7 – Deep Amethyst 811
  • Round 8 – Deep Amethyst 811
  • Round 9 – Lepidolite 830
  • Round 10 – Lepidolite 830
  • Round 11 – Lepidolite 830
  • Round 12 – Boulder Opal 804

At the end of round 12 my square is about 15cm (6in). The leaf stitch marker shown in the photographs is by Beth from Koru Clay Studio and was part of the Devon Sun yarn box last month.

Hope to see you next week for part 2

With love,

Esther

    1. Yarn amounts are available on the designer’s website, the link is under resources.
my own blanket is not finished, so I don’t know yarn amounts. I have 5 of each color at the moment and will order more when needed.

  2. Would love to make this in this colourway. How much of each colour is needed, as I am in Australia and would need to order the yarn online?

    1. Like I indicated in the announcement, my blanket is still a WIP and I don’t know how much yarn I will need. On the website of the designer, under resources in this post, you will find all the info on yarn amounts in the info documents.

  3. one of the best videos for instruction I have ever tried to use. Very well done. The voice is not annoying and filled with useless babble. Just instruction and demonstration. Thank you for the lesson and experience.

  4. This type of yarn is not available where I live. What would be a good weight/ply substitution if I pick my own yarn?

  5. After making and completing two of your Nuts About Squares afghans I didn’t think I was ready for another big project but ordered my yarn yesterday in your colors. They happen to be my favorites! I’m a little (ok a lot) behind but ill be ok. I love your tutorials—they are the best!! Looking forward to getting my yarn.

  6. Love your tutorials, I’d like to follow a couple of your colorway. A couple of the Scheepjes stone wash I have to buy internationally. Do you have any info as to how much of each color as needed. Thank you
