Yarn Kits

The blankets are made using not one but ALL the colors in either the Scheepjes Metropolis color range or the Scheepjes Scrumptious color range. What this means in practice is that the yarn kits contain a color pack with mini balls of all the colors or either Scheepjes Metropolis or Scheepjes Scrumptious along with 3 shades of gray. Off course the kits also contain goodies for a personal CAL experience!

You can get the kits from Wool Warehouse if you live in the UK, from Jimmy Beans if you live in USA. If you live in Europe, Caro’s Atelier is a great option. The kits are also available from many other Scheepjes retailers.

Scheepjes Metropolis Yarn kit

With the Metropolis yarn kit you will make a blanket that is approximately 160cm x 142cm (60″ x 56″). The kit contains 17 full 50g balls of Metropolis in 3 base gray colors and 1 Metropolis color pack with 80 mini 10g balls. Metropolis is made from a blend of 75% Extra Fine Merino wool and 25% Nylon. If you are allergic to wool, the Scrumptious kit might be a better option for you. You will also need a 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm crochet hook.

Scheepjes Scrumptious Yarn kit

With the Scrumptious yarn kit you will make a blanket that is approximately 198cm x 176cm (78″ x 69″). The kit contains 13 full 100g balls of Scrumptious in 3 base gray colors and 1 Limited Edition Scrumptious color pack with 80 mini 30g balls. Scrumptious is made from a blend of 50% recycled polyester and 50% Acrylic. You will also need a 3mm, 3.5mm and 4mm crochet hook.

Colour Lab CAL video tutorials

There are free video tutorials available to help you every step of the way. The tutorials do not replace the written pattern, but are meant as an extra support for you. The tutorials are available in English UK Terms and Dutch, both in left and right handed versions. The videos are available on my YouTube channel, in the written pattern and on the Scheepjes website. Here are the playlists with all the videos.

My Colour Lab Blanket and Color placement

Just like you, I have also made my blanket in my own, personal colorway. I made my color placement based on the color wheel, choosing the colors for each next part based on complementing colors of the previous part. I started with greens in part 1, and then I went with deep reds, purple and a splash of yellow for part 2. In part 2 I mixed up the placement of the grey shades but it still looks great overall! Part 3 and 4 showed more greens and yellows to match part 2, but also the introduction of purples to look ahead to part 5 which is all about pinks and reds. Part 7 and 8 are orange and other warm shades to balance everything out.

    1. You make all colorways with the same kit. It’s one kit for ALL colorways, the difference is the color placement. I will not be selling kits, but I will share my color placement each week. If you buy a kit through one of the links on my blog, you support my work because I get a small commission from your purchase.

  1. Esther, did you use Metropolis or Scrumptious yarn for your Colour Lab Blanket video? If Metropolis, could I still follow your colours in Scrumptious? I’m really overloaded at work and don’t have time to create my own colour scheme, but I love yours!

      1. Esther, I decided to go with the best of both worlds. My brother said he tought Colour Lab was cool when I was unsure, so I’m gifting him the Scrumptious Blanket. I sent him all the links to the colouring pages so he and his wife, with the help of their computer wiz, University network guy, will choose the colour pattern for that one. I’m getting a Metropolis Kit so I can do that in your colours. This will be fun!
