Nuts about Squares CAL – Week 3

I know many of you are anxiously anticipating with your hooks at the ready for the next square of Nuts about Squares CAL. Without further ado then, time for the square which we will be making for part 3 of Nuts about Squares. This square is by a designer I have not worked with before but would LOVE to work with more. Her designs are interesting and detailed and I totally admire them. This week we are making Denna designed by the fabulous Polly Plum from Every Trick on the Hook.

Just a note on this square in relation to Nuts about Squares. It could be that Denna turns out slightly larger than your squares for week 1 and 2. Don’t worry about it, any small difference will not be noticed in the final blanket.

Yarn kits

The 3 colorways Nuts about the Earth, Nuts about the Sea, and Nuts about the Sky are no longer available as kits. I have a detailed post with all the yarn information, amounts, weights and color combinations for the 3 colorways, you can find the yarn/color information HERE.

Color chart

The colors for each row are given in the Color Chart Week 3 for each of the three colorways or you can follow the general colorway in the table below.

Instructions Nuts about Squares week 3

Use the following hook sizes to make your squares or the hook size you need to get the correct size:

UPDATE: Many people found that their Denna squares were way larger than the other squares in the blanket. Decrease your hook size if needed.

Work Rounds 1 to 17 according to the written pattern or video tutorial using the colorway for week 3 given above. Work 3 squares in total.

At this point you should have 40 stitches per edge of your square. Work an extra round to bring the final stitch count to 44 stitches per side. Round 18 using color A, attach yarn with a standing hdc or ch2 in any ch2-corner space, 1hdc in same corner space, ch2, and 2hdc in same corner space. This is your new corner made. *Work 1hdc on each of the next 40 st, (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in next ch2-space. Repeat from * 3 more times, omitting the last corner on the final repeat. Join to the first st with a ss. [44 hdc per side]

Repeat Round 18 for all 3 squares. Round 18 is also shown in THIS VIDEO. You may notice that your Denna squares are slightly larger than your Esme and Spiro squares. Don’t worry about this, when your blanket is finished you will not notice it. Block your squares to the following sizes:

  • Color Crafter – 25cm (10in)
  • Stone Washed – 22cm (9in)
  • Sunkissed – 20cm (7.5in)

Nederlandse Instructies (Dutch) voor Nuts about Squares week 3

Maak in totaal 3 vierkantjes.

  • Color Crafter – 25cm
  • Stone Washed – 22cm
  • Sunkissed – 20cm

Video tutorials

If you appreciate a visual support to the pattern, you can follow the video for Denna. This video shows you how to make the original square.

After you have completed the original pattern you need to add an extra round using Color A to bring your total stitch count to 44 stitches. I also show you how to do this in a short video.

I hope to see all of you next week for part 4 of Nuts about Squares CAL when we make jet another interesting square.

  1. Thank you very much for the colorchart to fill in our own colors. That’s exactly what I asked you for :))

  2. Hi can anyone tell me are the corner stitches counted? I’m getting confused about this. I have 44 stitches NOT including the 2dc’s that make up the corner. If i add those then i have 48!
    Thanks
