TLC Blanket – Part 3

For part 3 of TLC Blanket you will learn perhaps the most classic of all crochet stitches, the so-called granny stitch. This stitch pattern is used in so many designs, and one you recognize it, you see it everywhere.

Materials

TLC Blanket is available in 3 beautiful colorways from the wide range of Scheepjes Chunky Monkey yarn. Each blanket is made using 6 colors, a 5.0mm and a 6.5mm hook. Find all information about yarn amounts and other other supplies HERE.

Learning Objectives Part 3

In part 3 of the pattern you will learn to a classic stitch pattern. You will learn

  • to work in a space between stitches
  • to work more than one stitch in the same position

Abbreviations

This pattern uses US terms.
ch chain
dc double crochet
sc single crochet
ss slip stitch
st(s) stitch(es)
GG Granny group, 3dc worked in one position
RS Right side of work
WS Wrong side of work

Notes and Tips Part 3

  • The stitch pattern we work in part 3 is called a granny stitch, and is perhaps the most classic and well known stitch pattern in crochet.
  • The group of 3dc is called a granny group, I abbreviate it with GG.
  • Do not turn your work. All rows are worked with RS facing.
  • Return to your base hook size of 5mm for this part.
  • Ch3 at the beginning of a row counts as 1dc.

TLC Blanket Part 3 – Free Crochet Pattern

Row 30 (RS) With a 5mm hook, attach Color E in first st with ss, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in first st, *skip 2 sts, 3dc in next st; repeat from * till 3 sts left, skip 2 sts, 2dc in last st. Fasten off.
[47 GG, 4 dc]

Row 31 (RS) Attach Color D in first st with ss, ch3, 3dc before next GG, *3dc in space between next two groups of granny sts; repeat from * to end, 1dc in last st. Fasten off.
[48 GG, 2 dc]

Row 32 (RS) Attach Color C in first st with ss, ch3, 1dc in same st, *3dc in space between next two groups of granny sts; repeat from * to end, 2dc in last st. Fasten off.
[47 GG, 4 dc]

Row 33 (RS) Repeat Row 31 with Color F.
[48 GG, 2 dc]

Row 34 (RS) Repeat Row 32 with Color B.
[47 GG, 4 dc]

Row 35 (RS) Repeat Row 31 with Color E.
[48 GG, 2 dc]

Row 36 (RS) Repeat Row 32 with Color D.
[47 GG, 4 dc]

Row 37 (RS) Repeat Row 31 with Color B.
[48 GG, 2 dc]

Row 38 (RS) Attach Color A in first st with ss, ch3, 1dc in same st, *3dc in space between next two groups of granny sts; repeat from * to end, 2dc in last st. Turn. Do not fasten off.
[47 GG, 4 dc]

Row 39 (WS) Ch1, 1sc in first st, 1sc in next st to end, the last sc will be in the starting ch3 from Row 38. Fasten off.
[145 sc]

Finishing Part 3

Work away all yarn tails. The blanket may wobble. This is because of the stitches from part 2 pull the fabric inward. At the end of the project we will block the blanket, which will help to pull the blanket in to shape. The blanket is now about 36cm wide and 125cm long.
