About Charlotte’s Universe

Charlotte’s Universe is the long awaited sequel to Sophie’s Universe. All good things come to those who wait, and Charlotte’s Universe is an embodiment of the proverb. Charlotte’s Universe grows from the Charlotte Square, and just like its sibling sister, it has become a masterpiece in its own right. The finished blanket is about 160cm square using Scheepjes Softfun Aquarelle yarn and a 4.0mm hook.

Yarn and Yarn Kits

There are three official colorways for the Charlotte’s Universe blanket; Vintage Charlotte, Sunshine Charlotte and Pink Charlie. You can of course make the blanket in any colorway you like, and knowing Dedri she will love to see all your color combinations! Dedri has made the original Vintage blanket using Scheepjes Softfun Aquarel (DK/Light Worsted Weight/#3).

If you would like to make your own color combination, you will need 37 balls of Scheepjes Softfun (DK/Light Worsted Weight/#3) in the following combination, where color B is the contrast color.

  • 21 balls of Color A
  • 10 balls of Color B
  • 6 balls of Color C

You can find more tips and a coloring chart to help you find your perfect color placement on Dedri’s blog HERE.

There are Charlotte’s Universe kits available from Wool Warehouse (UK/Int), or you can purchase Scheepjes Stoftfun yarn individually from Caro’s Atelier (NL) or many Scheepjes stockists world wide!

My Strawberry Ice Cream Charlotte’s Universe

My first Charlotte square I made using Scheepjes Secret Garden, a beautiful silk yarn. For Charlotte’s Universe I have decided to use one of my favorite blanket yarns, Scheepjes Stone Washed and I have named the colorway “Strawberry Ice Cream”. The yarn is both sturdy and soft, great for blankets.

I used the following 7 colors of Scheepjes Stone Washed for my Strawberry Ice Cream Charlotte’s Universe together with a 3.5mm hook.

  • 10 x Color A – 821 Pink Quartzite
  • 9 x Color B – 820 Rose Quartz
  • 5 x Color C – 810 Garnet
  • 5 x Color D – 818 Lilac Quartz
  • 5 x Color E – 811 Deep Amethyst
  • 7 x Color F – 836 Tourmaline
  • 2 x Color G – 819 New Jade

You can buy Scheepjes Stone Washed from Wool Warehouse (UK), Jimmy Bean Wools (USA), Love Crafts (USA), The Knitting Network (UK), Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU), or your local Scheepjes Stockist.

  8. Hello. First I would like to thank you for your excellent video tutorials. They have been a great help! My question is: I would like to make your Strawberry Ice Cream colorways using Stylecraft Special DK yarn. Is it possible to get help on color choices?. The difference in the yarn is 130 meters to 295 meters per ball for the Stylecraft. I’m using colors Dedri suggested for the parents of a young lady, Charlotte, who passed away suddenly January 7th from Muscular Dystrophy. She had just turned 21. Her favorite colors were purple, black and teal. With Dedri’s advice the shades of these colors is working nicely. I’ve enjoyed working with the Stylecraft Special DK yarn. However, translating colors and how much I need to purchase is difficult for me. I have a brain injury that blocks me at times. Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you very much

    1. Yarn amounts will roughly work out to 3 balls of Stone Washed = 1 ball of Special DK.
I am not very familiar with the Special DK colors. You need a soft white, two shades of pink, two shades of purple, a light green and a wine-red.

      1. Thank you very much for your help! I will keep the information for the next yarn order.

    2. I have the Stone Washed and SSDK shade cards. I messaged you on Facebook with my suggested substitutes. I wasn’t sure if I could post Stylecraft colors here.
