I am ready to share my final mandala design before retiring from crochet designing with you. These are different 3 mandalas that you can make as a set or make on their own. You can make them in bright colors like I did or you can make them in your favorite color combination. The options are endless. In this post you find all the information you need to make your own Starry Night mandalas.
Dit patroon is beschikbaar in het Nederlands HIER.

Patterns
The pattern for Starry Night Mandalas is divided into 3 parts; in part 1 we make the Super Nova mandala, in part 2 the Dark Star mandala, and in part 3 the Milky Way mandala.
The free, written patterns are available in English US Terms and Dutch. I will release the free patterns over the next few weeks. If you don’t want to wait, the full pattern with all 3 mandalas is available as a single printable file on Ravelry for a small fee.
Video tutorials
There will be free video tutorials available to help you every step of the way. I will release these videos on my YouTube channel when I release the free patterns. The video’s are only available in English US Terms. I hope the videos make it possible for everyone to make these mandalas.

Good to know before you start
Before you get started, here are a few helpful tips:
- All patterns are in US crochet terminology.
- All rounds are made with the right side of your work facing.
- Sometimes the starting chain counts as a stitch and sometimes it doesn’t, each round will clearly tell you which is the case.
- Any information written in italics provides extra clarification to help guide you through tricky details or special instructions.
- The number of stitches you should have at the end of each round is given in [ ], use this to check that you’re on track.
- Throughout the patterns, you’ll find notes on the expected size at key points. In general, you can replace a round that contains only dc stitches with a round of hdc stitches if your mandala is too large and likewise replace the stitches with tr if your mandala is too small.
Gauge
The mandalas are designed to be approximately 10% smaller than the rings they go into. This means the small mandala is 17 to 18cm before it goes into the 20cm ring. The 10% difference is important because the mandalas need to be stretched out when placed in the ring to ensure that they can support their own weight. If they are too large, they will be floppy and droopy when placed in the rings.
If you find that your mandalas are too big, you are most likely lifting your stitches higher than I am. I suggest you look at THIS VIDEO about the golden loop. If you are a so-called lifter, your stitches will be higher than average, and going down a hook size will not make any difference. I suggest that you try to pull your yarn back to make your stitches shorter.
