I would like to announce that I will be doing video tutorials for the Demelza blanket designed by Catherine Bligh. The blanket has been inspired by the character Demelza from Poldark, a series of novels written by Winston Graham in the 20th century and recently adapted for television by the BBC.
The design is completed and is available in English and Dutch. You can jump right in and start making it or you can join me and a lovely group of ladies and make your Demelza blanket as part of a crochet along.

Yarn
You need about 3300 meters of yarn for this project. I am using Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn in 13 lovely colors. At this point I have no idea on my colorway (that’s normal for me), so I don’t know exactly how much of each color I will be using. I expect to need 2 or 3 balls of each color.
I am using the following colors: Moonstone (801), Boulder Opal (804), Canada Jade (806), Red Jasper (807), Corundum Ruby (808), Deep Amethyst (811), Lemon Quartz (812), Amazonite (813), Green Agate (815), Coral (816), Citrine (817), Lilac Quartz (818), and New Jade (819). I will be using a 3.5mm hook in combination with the Stone Washed yarn.
Scheepjes Stone Washed is a mix fiber with a cotton center and an acrylic outer layer. This mix gives it a very unique look and feel. The yarn comes in 23 shades and two weights. I am using the regular version which is a fingering/4-ply weight yarn, but it also comes in worsted/aran weight variety known as Stone Washed XL. You can buy Scheepjes Stone Washed and Stone Washed XL from Wool Warehouse (UK/Int), Caro’s Atelier (NL), or your local Scheepjes Stockist.
Joining the CAL
The Demelza blanket is already completed and if you want to you can start right away. However, I will be publishing my videos as part of the Facebook group Pippin Crochet Club that are hosting the Demelza blanket as a CAL. If you want to partake in this CAL, join the Pippin Crochet Club.

Je hebt prachtige kleuren uitgezocht voor deze deken. Ik was vorige week al lid geworden van die groep toen ik hoorde dat ze er een CAL mee deden. Ook met de stonewash nog nooit gehaakt dus ga de give away in de gaten houden LOL

It makes me so sad that all these CAL use Facebook to share details, contests, and the like. I don’t belong to Facebook and I don’t want to join just to follow a CAL. For the Last Dance on the Beach CAL, I followed along on Instagram and the individual designers’ blogs but it would have been nice to participate in discussions about the different squares/designs. I wish the designers would just use their blogs to share tips and comments, but to each his/her own. 🙂 At least I have your videos, so I can crochet along with you!

A few years ago it used to be on the blogs, but FB has taken over. What i find most frustrating is that there are so many social media platforms and you need to be active on ALL of them. Impossible really. I focus on my blog, youtube and Facebook.

Oké na een aantal maal lezen en niet durven reageren moet ik het volgende kwijt:
Ik haak al sinds ik 4 ben. Oma Sientje leerde het mij nu 30 jaar geleden. Ik kan prima haken en durf zelfs te zeggen dat ik het leven expert wel heb gehaald. Na haar dood nu 12 jaar geleden waren mijn haaknaald en ik even gescheiden, maar we hebben elkaar 6 jaar geleden weer gevonden. Ik heb u video’s op YouTube niet echt nodig, maar tijdens Sophie toch weleens gekeken. Uw uitleg, prettige stem en goede kleurkeuze (naar mijn smaak) zijn perfect en stimulerend. Vooral saaie stukken worden makkelijker door te komen door samen met u te haken.
Ik weet van een goede vriendin die dankzij mij aan Sophie is begonnen als eerste haakproject dat u ook erg goed werkt voor een beginnende haakster.
U klinkt nooit neerbuigend in woordkeus en stemgeluid.
Dus namens mij een dikke duim.
Ik ga aan de Demelza deken beginnen straks en ga er maar vanuit dat een van de kijkers ik ben.

LOTS. You will need more than 3300 meters of yarn because the XL is worked with a larger hook. I guesstimate that you will need about 4000 meters. There is 75 meter on a Ball of XL, so that will mean about 50 balls. But this is only a very rough estimate on my part

De Mandala Madness is bijna klaar en ooohhh wat is/wordt hij mooi!! Ik oogst er al veel succes mee bij familie en vrienden en ik vergeet dan nooit om jou de hemel in te prijzen…want ook al ben ik een ervaren brei/haak/naaister, zonder jou video’s was het een enorme klus geworden om wijs te worden uit de geschreven patronen. Plus dat het ook nog eens ontzettend gezellig en rustgevend is om naar je stem te luisteren en samen op te haken.
Ik ga nu eerst een paar Pauwen tassen maken. Voor mijzelf heb ik de kleuren waarmee jij de videos gaat maken en voor een zus en schoonzus (opdrachten!!!!😂) de pauwblauwe en de lichte versie.
Maar ik heb mij ook aangemeld bij de Demelza FB groep en ga hierna aan die prachtige deken beginnen. Ik heb nog Stylecraft liggen in de combinate voor de Frida’s Flower Blanket CAL maar ik vind de Demelza veel mooier maar niet in die kleuren combie die ik heb liggen. Dus maar weer eens mijn bankrekening nagekeken en hier en daar wat geschoven met de financiën en wil toch jou kleuren combinatie van de Stonewash aanschaffen. Nu schrijf je dat er ongeveer 2 tot 3 bollen van ieder gebruikt gaan worden….weet je toevallig bij benadering van welke we 2 of 2 moeten aanschaffen!? Als ik er 2 van elke kleur bestel zit je op 3380 meter.
Heel verhaal weer. Ik wens je veel succes met de video’s en kijk allereerst uit naar de pauwentas!

Ik heb echt geen idee van mijn kleuren voor Demelza, ik heb zojuist de eerste vierkantjes gemaakt en omdat ik niet vooruit plan heb ik geen idee van mijn eindhoeveelheid. Tja, daar heb je niets aan natuurlijk… ik weet het gewoon echt nog niet. Anders neem overal 1 van, kom je waarschijnlijk qua kosten al boven de gratis verzenden drempel en dan koop je later nog wat bij? Ik bestel veel bij Caros Atelier, daar is de porto niet te duur en gratis boven 50 Euro. Voor dit project is het geen ramp als het andere lotnummers zijn, merk je niks van in de finale deken.

Bedankt voor je antwoord. Goeie tip weer. Overal eerst 1 van kopen, ga ik doen. Ik koop altijd alles bij Caro’s atelier en bouw daar telkens een mooie korting op. Inmiddels weer een code aangevraagd om mijn gespaarde punten te verzilveren. Toch mooi 10 euro! En inderdaad, door de lage verzendkosten en altijd snelle levering een perfecte webshop voor mijn hobby!

I’m not sure actually. the design uses color to help shape different elements in the squares. I think you might lose some of this detail. On the other hand, there is enough 3D elements in the blanket, and that works very well in 1 color. I don’t know what is best to be honest….
