In Part 7 of TLC Blanket we are learning to make popcorn stitches. I really like popcorn stitches because of the texture and decoration they give to any crochet item. They are one of my favorite stitches. Did you know that many people confuse the popcorn stitch with the bobble stitch? In THIS VIDEO, I explain the difference between the two stitches. For TLC Blanket, we only make the popcorn stitch. In part 7 you will also learn to work in a row other than the previous row, and how to work in front and behind other stitches. Quite a lot of new things!

- to work in a row lower than the last row made

Notes and Tips Part 7
- The stitches and techniques in part 7 are more advanced, but are an important skill to have. Pay close attention to which row you are working in, because a mistake is easily made.
- The popcorn stitch has ch1 at the end to finish the stitch. The chains that are given in the pattern DO NOT include the chain belonging to the popcorn stitch. In other words, if a pattern says “1popcorn, ch5” you will make 6 chains in total.
- In some patterns you are asked to make a bobble stitch. Please remember that a bobble stitch is not the same as a popcorn stitch. See the difference in THIS VIDEO.
- Ch3 at the beginning of a row counts a 1dc.
Video Tutorials Part 7
To help you as much as possible, I have made full video tutorials showing as much as possible of every step involved in making your TLC Blanket. The videos are available in a LEFT HANDED version and a RIGHT HANDED version.
Extra rows if you made your blanket longer
If you made your blanket longer, you have to work 2 extra rows to get to a multiple of 5 stitches and have the front of your blanket facing. The reason for this is that the design changes from a multiple of 3 to a multiple of 5 in parts 7 and 8. Removing the few stitches will not cause any problems for the final look of the blanket.
If you added 24 stitches to your blanket (remove 4 sts)
Row 51a (RS) Continue with Color A and 5mm hook, ch1 (does not count as a stitch), 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st till 3 sts left, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in last st. Turn. [167 sc]
Row 51b (WS) Ch1, 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st till 3 sts left, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in last st. Turn. [165 sc]
Now continue with Row 52 as normal.
If you added 48 stitches to your blanket (remove 3 sts)
Row 51a (RS) Continue with Color A and 5mm hook, ch1 (does not count as a stitch), 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st till 3 sts left, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in last st. Turn. [191 sc]
Row 51b (WS) Ch1, 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st to end st. Turn. [190 sc]
Now continue with Row 52 as normal.
If you added 72 stitches to your blanket (remove 2 sts)
Row 51a (RS) Continue with Color A and 5mm hook, ch1 (does not count as a stitch), 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st to end. Turn. [216 sc]
Row 51b (WS) Ch1, 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st to end. Turn. [215 sc]
Now continue with Row 52 as normal.
If you added 96 stitches to your blanket (remove 1 st)
Row 51a (RS) Continue with Color A and 5mm hook, ch1 (does not count as a stitch), 1sc in first st, 1sc2tog in next 2 sts, 1sc in next st to end. Turn. [240 sc]
Row 51b (WS) Ch1, 1sc in next st to end. Turn. [240 sc]
Now continue with Row 52 as normal.
If you added 120 stitches to your blanket
Now continue with Row 52 as normal.
